Dear SRES Families,
This is an update to our ongoing effort to decrease infections and viruses in the classroom and at school. As a result of the confirmed flu cases, we are offering you the option to send your HEALTHY child to school in a medical mask. Please talk with your child about the flu and the contagiousness of the flu, and the reason for wearing the mask. Encourage your child to wear the mask throughout the day with the exception of lunch, as we cannot replace or store the individual students’ masks. Also, you are welcome to send water with your child in a clear container to decrease use of water fountain; despite our vigilance in retaining sanitized fountains. These are merely other attempts to provide an additional layer of protection for those families wishing to do so. Again, we are creatively continuing to prevent further transfer of virus/germs; encouraging frequent handwashing, classrooms are thoroughly being cleaned and sanitized, cafeteria staff are implementing VDH recommendations for cleaning table surfaces, Nurse Jan cleans and sanitizes her office multiple times each day, and bus drivers are supplied and utilize the same solutions for sanitizing their buses. The MOST EFFECTIVE method to decrease further contamination at school is to keep your children home when: 1. They have/had elevated temperature within the past 24 hours. If your child has a fever in the morning before school, do not give them Tylenol or Motrin and send them to school. 2. If they are vomiting or have diarrhea (3 or more loose stools) the night before or 4 hours before school, please keep them home at least 24 hours after symptom free. 3. If your child has persistent yellow/green nasal drainage, consider seeing a physician. 4. If your child has a heavy, persistent cough, consider seeing a physician. 5. If your child has skin eruptions or an undiagnosed skin rash. 6. If your child has redness of the eye lining or an irritation of the eyes accompanied by swelling and drainage. Little ones cannot be expected to keep their fingers out of their eyes. 7. If your child is taking antibiotics, keep them home for 24 hours after administering the first dose. Again, I will take attendance into consideration before referring to truancy. Please refer to my statement in previous PowerSchool communication: attendance for students out of school with illness and under a doctor's care will be considered before making a referral to truancy. Please be aware that we may require a doctor's note for excusing absences or for allowing students back to school. If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Jan or Ms. Houff. |
